Here Be Dragons (Terra Incógnita)
Feature film by Maria Molina Peiró
Production: near/by film
In a strange landscape akin to a far away planet, miners and astrobiologists dig the soil for what seem very different purposes: to fuel the technological revolution and to search for life in the Universe.
"Here be dragons (Terra Incognita) is part of a broader artistic research, in which I investigate how the scientific and technological breakthroughs we are experiencing, are actively renegotiating our understanding of life and spatial boundaries. I am interested in how these breakthroughs are incresingly challenging notions we have about life, nature, artificial, territory, property and frontiers and how these challenges stress the necessity to rethink humanity’s place from a larger temporal and spatial scale."
Maria Molina Peiró's previous short film The Sasha premiered at IFFR in 2019 in the Tiger Shorts Competition. Here Be Dragons is her first feauture length film. In 2020, Maria participated in the RAW residency Arché -> Work, a collaboration between DocLisboa and Márgenes Festival. The project won the Premio a la creación audiovisuel La casa encendida, the award for best audiovisual creation.
