Marina Sulima

director

Marina Sulima is an artist born in Moldova, working and living in Groningen. She has graduated in 2020 from Minerva Academy in Groningen with Parcelpaedia, a short film about Italy Syndrome: a depression specific to Eastern European women who work as caregivers in Italy. The film received a Wildcard from Netherlands Filmfonds, which allows her to make another hybrid film: Consider a tomato.

"I often use illustration in addition to animation, sculpture and film to create projects that follow trajectories of certain objects, like a parcel, a shrimp's ear, a rock or a tomato. This allows me to engage with and tell stories about problems of a globalized economy and a damaged world."

Currently Marina gives workshops at different refugee centers and is developing an exhibition on ground's responses to mining for Noorderlicht Gallery in Groningen.
